Khago Dismisses Apology From Bushman. Is this Lack of restpect for elder musicians?

Artiste Khago is fuming over comments he said were directed at him by fellow artiste Bushman during a radio interview recently.

According to Khago, during the interview which centred around singer Natural Black cutting his hair, Bushman made references to him not being officially booked for any official show in New York.

“Him deh pon the radio like him a music police and a talk to Natural Black bout how him trim him hair fi do dancehall. Him a gwaan like him a music referee and a tell Natural Black say him never haffi trim because Khago have songs but never get no bookings fi go foreign,” Khago said.

Khago went on to say that he grew up listening to Bushman’s songs and is now offended that Bushman would make such remarks about his career.

“The first time mi go foreign, Beenie Man did have a show fi do and couldn’t perform and him ask mi fi perform, after that all a my show dem a me headline dem. Bushman sing one song 30 years ago and if him can sing one song and can get book fi show, much less me. Tell Bushman fi go trim, him a gwaan like him a music God and a gwaan like him holy,” an irate Khago said.

When contacted, Bushman said his comments were made towards the music and the state the industry is in right now.

“Mi just did a say music nuh deh nowhere and all now him (Khago) nuh do a official show in New York, a people haffi a call him up. Mi just say a ting and if mi offend him mi apologise. Seventeen years ago my career start, so if him offended then I apologise for that,” Bushman said.

Khago however, did not feel that this was enough and stated that this seemed like a personal vendetta against him.

“Him say it to the whole world already. Mi nuh know a who a pinch Bushman pon him back pocket fi him say dat bout me. Mi never hear a song play fi Bushman when mi go away. A my pickney sugar pan him a play wid. Diss him a try diss me, is a personal vendetta him have. Why him chose my name? Mi nuh want no apology from him,” Khago said.

Guyanese born Reggae Artiste Natural Black cuts locks for the 2nd time – Says he now wants to sing slackness

Reggae crooner Natural Black says he has been living an unbalanced life and decided to cut his locks as a result.

The artiste said he needed a change because his life was not matching up to the Rastafarian beliefs.

“I needed a new page, mi have basic needs to fill. As a Rasta you have certain tings weh you haffi keep up and if you nah keep it up, it nuh make no sense, just live free. When you nah make it one way, you haffi attack it another way,” he said.

The singer, who is known for songs Just Like In The Movies and Far From Reality, says he is now focusing his attention on releasing hardcore dancehall songs.

To date, he has released a few songs titled Love Straight, Mi Get Pat and Play With You, which he says has been getting good feedback especially from college students.

“I wanted to do some hardcore dancehall music, music that have expletive language and is X-rated. So far mi a get good feedback especially from the college girls dem. It look like dem did a wait fi dem song ya. It a gwaan mad,” he said.

He says so far, fans have reacted with surprise and excitement.

“Some fans a say dem glad fi di change, nuff a dem accept it because dem know say a life,” he said. He also confessed that there were some Rastafarians who were not happy with his decision.

Natural Black was also confident that his fans who have been supporting him from day one would understand his decision to cut his hair.

“Dem a go understand man, as you grow you understand some tings more. Religion is kind of trappy enuh, if you nuh understand certain tings den you get trapped in a kind of way,” he said.

Although he has broken his Rastafarian covenant by cutting his locks, Natural Black says he will remain a vegetarian and will continue to keep some of the orders associated with being a Rasta.

The artiste was also confident that this will not affect his chances of being booked for shows and also urged his fans to learn from his mistakes.

“Dem need fi focus and learn from my mistakes. Instead of criticising me, dem need fi learn from my movement. Life is about one step at a time. Don’t get caught up in the wrong things,” he said.

This is the second time the artiste has cut his locks. He had previously cut his hair in 2005.

‘Everybody waah be artiste’ – Producer, promoter complain about mediocrity

Why everybody waah be artiste? That is the question many seem to be asking as the list of underground dancehall/reggae artistes seems to be continually getting longer.

The burgeoning list is taking a toll on at least one member of the entertainment fraternity.

Stampede, a popular promoter of young talent, is constantly bombarded by several persons with aspirations of becoming a musician.

While not bashing anyone’s dream, he said that the situation has become one of concern for many players in the musical field as many hopefuls arise but few have the talent.

Stampede claims that on a daily basis, he is approached by many persons, most of them wanting a ‘buss’ in the music business.

“Most a di youth dem waah leave dem work fi turn artiste. Is a big ting weh everybody a ask. Mi cyaah walk di streets in peace. Yuh aggo have somebody a seh ‘Stampede, Stampede, mi have a tune wah mi waah yuh hear.’ Down to radio man dem a tun artiste now, down to the selector dem,” said Stampede.

annoying

He continued: “It worse pon me because me is a man who help di young artiste dem. More time how dem get mi number, I doan know. Di amount a call mi get, it annoying bredrin.”

He said that gone are the days when the easiest thing to do was to become a member of the security force, but now, “everybody waah do entertainment”.

According to Stampede, the issue is a concern for others as well, saying it is also affecting producers.

One such producer is Chin who runs Chiney K Productions and works from the Mixing Lab studio.

He said that, “nothing nuh wrong wid somebody wanting to be a be artiste … a just who can do it.”

“Some a dem just a try run inna it and then when dem get a little acknowledgement and likkle money di first ting yuh see dem have is an entourage. And then a gang start and that lead to problems,” he said.

Chin went on to say that many of the persons who were becoming musicians were not doing it for the love of music, but because they see the material gains of prominent figures in the industry and wanted the same.

This, he said, could be seen from the quality of music they put out.

“A long time mi a produce wid nuff big artistes and a likkle eediat song weh have a little catchy line but a seh foolishness dem a put out. Nutten nuh annoy mi more than hearing an off key song or a hear di auto-tune in the song dem,” said Chin.

He hopes that in years to come this habit will change and work of good quality and with good messages will rise to the fore.
